Abstract:

The province of West-Flanders reviews it’s spatial planning with regards to housing every 5 years, and at the same time new goals are set for the coming period. This project evaluates at which rate the stock of parcels of land that is available for the construction of dwellings decreases over time (spatial dimension) against the background of population and household trends (demographic dimension). Trends in types of projects (greenfield/brownfield/renovation), densification, etc. are studied to estimate per household spatial consumption. Population and household projections are produced to estimate housing needs in terms of volume and adaptation between household types and (additional) housing needs.
