Cross-national differences in intergenerational social mobility.
2022 -2025 | VUB
Summary:
Over the past decades, economic and social inequalities are widening across the Western world. Simultaneously with this return of inequality, mass-education transformed societies in “schooled societies” where educational systems became central institutions for social stratification and mobility. This PhD-project aims to examine the evolution in and patterns of intergenerational social mobility across European societies, and how this is affected by the expansion of school meritocracy. Moreover, we will investigate gender and ethnic inequalities in intergenerational social mobility. Finally, we also address conceptualisation of social class in a schooled society.
